“Music becomes visual. Drawings turn into graphic scores. Pens dance on the paper. Unleashed lines.” The work is about my relationship with drawing in response to sound and music. You will often see me drawing during live musical performances, especially improvised ones. The rhythm of the music guides the traces on the surface of the paper, enhancing the immediacy and contingent nature of the drawing. Be-ing in the moment, not looking at the paper and usually drawing with both hands is paramount to me to produce authentic and meaningful work. Drawings are becoming temporal palimpsests capturing slices of time. The paradoxical ideas of being in control, surrendering to intuition and relinquishing judgement are at the forefront of my experimental process. I embrace serendipity and the unknown. I believe they are catalysts for new opportunities. It feels right to improvise with the musicians...no words...a symbiosis of visual and sound art. "Not knowing what will happen next forces us to reside in the present moment and the present moment unfolds into a deep space of connection and encounter". (MacRae, Arculus, 2020). My practice, which has transitioned from drawing language to the language of drawing, is being led by the process itself. The line has become freer, as if liberating itself from the restraints of language. Trying to visually capture the movement of sound has become an obsession...
